Forum B - AWD Development

Michael Braunstingl

9:30 - 10:00 | Advanced gear optimization for AWD-Systems

Michael Braunstingl | Analysis Engineer, Passenger Car Transmission Simulation and Testing, AVL List GmbH

Michael Braunstingl received the BSc degree in Technical Physics from the University of Technology in Graz, where he is currently finalizing his MSc degree. He started his professional career as Maintenance Engineer for flight simulators and became a pilot on various business jets in executive aviation, before focusing his interest on theoretical and computational physics. He joined AVL List GmbH in 2017 as Analysis Engineer in the department for passenger car transmission simulation and testing. His research interest includes multi-body dynamic simulation for which he is developing advanced gear contact models and numerical gear surface damage formulations.

Edoardo Sabbioni | Politecnico di Milano

• Modelling (Vehicle & Powertrain)
• Optimization (Problem definition, design variables and objectives)
• Results (Solution space frontiers, optimal design and design variables analysis)

Edoardo Sabbioni is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Politecnico di Milano. His research focuses mainly on the stability, dynamics and control of mechanical systems, with applications for road and rail vehicles. He is also involved in research activities in the fields of aerodynamics and mechatronics. During his research activities he worked together with the most important Italian automobile and railway companies. He has also been involved in several projects established by the Italian and European Community.
